Two more persons tested positive for swine flu in the city and are being administered doses of Tamiflu, even as four others were admitted in the ID Hospital in Beliaghata on suspicion of having contracted the H1N1 virus.

One of the confirmed cases is Yuki Nakajawa,a Japanese citizen who had been admitted to a private hospital with diarrhoea. The doctors, however, suspected he had flu-like symptoms and sent him to ID Hospital. The other patient was identified as Bahadur Feroze Shah.

Four from the city,Rammohan Rao (57),Indrani Bhattacharya (10),Mitali Mondol (27) and her daughter Pranjali Mondol (6) have had their swabs sent for tests. Gunaratna Munasing (20),a Sri Lankan citizen, has also been admitted to the ID Hospital with flu-like symptoms.

Earlier this week,a doctor,Manas Saha, had also tested positive and was admitted to the hospital. He had gone to Singapore to attend a conference and had come back early after feeling sick. He had then gotten admitted in ID Hospital after coming down with mild fever.

Health officials, meanwhile, said the situation is under control so far and is being closely monitored.

Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakrabarty said in spite of the rising number of people admitted in the hospital, there is at present no need to panic.

With an increase in the number of infected patients in the country, the state government is also considering increasing the number of places where the patients can be admitted. At present, patients can only be admitted in ID hospital in Kolkata and the North Bengal Medical College in Siliguri. The government is considering issuing an order that would make it mandatory to keep aside an isolation ward in all the district hospitals,if the flu becomes an epidemic.
