Sub-jailor found hanging at home

The sub-jailor of Alipore Women’s Correctional Home was today found hanging from the ceiling of his room in his residential quarters inside the jail premises.

The sub-jailor of Alipore Women’s Correctional Home was today found hanging from the ceiling of his room in his residential quarters inside the jail premises.

Prasenjit Biswas (41) was found hanging around 1.30 am at the jail quarters near the Presidency Jail.

According to sources, Biswas had gone to the jail and then returned home for lunch in the afternoon during which he committed suicide. The jail authorities,However, could not immediately reveal the causes behind the suicide.

The body has been sent for postmortem and a case has been lodged.

IG (prisons) BD Sharma said,“Biswas was earlier posted at the Presidency Jail and then was transferred to the women’s

correctional centre. His wife,who stays in Dankuni,came in the afternoon today and found the flat bolted from inside. She,along with a few neighbours,then broke open the door and found him hanging from the ceiling.”

He said the police were investigating the case for any foul play.

Some police officers said Biswas of late had been having problems with his wife Subha,who had left for her home in Dankuni around three weeks ago. The couple also has a nine-year-old child.
