Students feel tricked by report-writing

Students appearing for the Higher Secondary English examination on Wednesday were asked to write a “report” on publication of a wall magazine instead of a “notice” in their English paper,teacher said.

Students appearing for the Higher Secondary English examination on Wednesday were asked to write a “report” on publication of a wall magazine instead of a “notice” in their English paper,teacher said.

“The question is out of the syllabus,as prescribed by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. Generally,the students are taught to write newspaper reports and most of the schools do not have a wall magazine,” said Ashok Maity,Secretary,West Bengal Headmasters’ Association. The question carried 10 marks.

Meanwhile,Board officials said the matter would be discussed and steps would be taken so that the students who attempted the question are not penalised.

Student held for forgery
A student was detained on Wednesday for allegedly forging the signature of his headmaster to obtain the admit card of Higher Secondary examination. On Monday,Gautam Mondal,a student of Humanities at Paschim Gaberia High School in South 24 Parganas,alleged that he was not being allowed to appear for the HS examination,though the school had issued him the admit card. It was later found that he had forged his school headmaster’s signature to send his enrollment form to the Board. Apart from Gautam,the school identified three other students — Krishna Halder,Mahendranath Pathak and Rajesh Sardar — who were also not eligible for appearing in the examination but their admit cards were issued by the Council.

Question paper copies found in toilet of Bashirhat school
Photocopies of English question papers of Higher Secondary examination were found in a toilet of Bashirhat Raghunathpur High School in North 24 Parganas on Wednesday,indicating a possible leak of the question paper. The examination in-charge at the centre found the photo-copies and kept it under his custody.

Meanwhile,an examinee asked permission to leave the hall within an hour into the examination. The teachers found the answers written on the photocopies of the question paper recovered from the toilet and his handwriting to be matching and raised an alarm. The students of Basirhat Town High School were appearing in their exam at the centre. The officials of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education,however,ruled out any possibility of a paper leak.
