State JEE results announced, 99.4 % candidates successful

The exams for mathematics, physics and chemistry were held on April 30, across 303 centres in the state, and three venues in northeast India.

THE WEST Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) Board on Friday announced the 2023 results for admission to engineering and architecture courses. A total of 96,913 candidates — that is 99.4 per cent — were declared successful, the Board said.

WBJEE Board chairman Malayendu Saha announced that Md Sahil Akhtar and Soham Das of Delhi Public School, Ruby Park, bagged the first and the second rank, respectively while Sara Mukherjee of Bankura Banga Vidyalaya secured the third rank.

“A total of 1,24,919 candidates enrolled for the examination out of which 97,524 appeared in it and 96,913 qualified. The success rate is 99.4 per cent. Of the students who qualified, 69,560 are from West Bengal,” said Saha.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated the students and said she was happy that 53 per cent of the successful students were from the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education.

“Congratulations to the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination 2023 toppers and successful candidates from West Bengal and all over the country. I am extremely happy that 53 % of total successful candidates are from West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. This year 27.5 % of the successful candidates are women. Your excellent performance has made us proud. I congratulate the successful students, their proud parents and teachers,” Banerjee tweeted.

Md Sahil Akhtar, who topped WBJEE, told mediapersons that he used to study six-seven hours a day. “I am happy with this result. I had a feeling that I will feature in the top ten but never imagined that I would bag the first rank. I always wanted to study science and I want to pursue research in physics and especially in Astrophysics,” said Akhtar. The second rank holder Soham Das said he is preparing for JEE Advanced and wants to study computer science.
Principal of Delhi Public School, Ruby Park, Joyoti Chaudhuri congratulated both the students for bagging the top two ranks.

“It gives me great pleasure to share the news of the brilliant performance of our students in WBJEE 2023 with the top two positions going to our students. This is a moment of great pride for Delhi Public School Ruby Park, Kolkata and we extend our congratulations to Sahil and Soham and their parents and teachers for their hard work,” said the school principal.

The third rank holder, Sara Mukherjee, said she wants to study artificial intelligence and machine learning in the field of medicine. “I feel there is ample scope in AI and machine learning. This can make people’s lives easier especially in the field of medicine. I want to pursue these subjects after taking up computer science,” said Sara.
