State issues writ for Mangalkot entry

The state government on Monday said any politician, social worker or journalist going to Mangalkot would have to inform the district police beforehand.

The state government on Monday said any politician, social worker or journalist going to Mangalkot would have to inform the district police beforehand.

“People are going there to distribute relief though we don’t understand why relief has to be distributed. But unless the police are informed beforehand, they cannot take any responsibility,” Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen said.

The Congress has called for a rally there on August 9 and Sen said the party would have to inform the government. “They will have to inform us about the venue and time and date,” he said.

The home secretary also defended the police over the last week’s incident in which eight Congress MLAs led by CLP leader Manas Bhuina were assaulted allegedly by CPM goons.

“As far as I know, the police were not to blame for this. But we will have to see more. Today the SP and DM of Burdwan came and met me. Let us see,” Sen said.
