Someplace Else on Saturdays is usually a pretty picture. Literally. If you want a first hand low down on high fashion, its actually not a bad idea to drop in at the citys celebrated music mecca over the weekend. And only when you have found your feet amid stilettos, beer kegs and a fetid soup of sweat and perfumes, that music resurfaces in your mind. So,last Saturday was no different. Only, the PYTs and their knights in shining shirts brushing past you unceremoniously with little respect whatsoever towards your entire existence, your feet especially, couldnt push you out of the cubbyhole that SPE turns into over weekends. After a curse or two. The reason being a certain Delhi import called Them Clones.
Its been nine years, since the Clones burst into the live music scene, and four years since they swept the Channel V Launchpad. So,while their fans might feel that an album was long overdue, the band members are of the opinion that they decided on an album only when they were sure about the quality of their sound. And now with Love.Hate.Heroes,the band takes a step closer to their fans.
We had seventeen songs that could be put into the album. But we had to bring the number down to ten and no amount of debate and discussions led to anywhere, says Surojit, who plays the drums for Them Clones which also has Gucci and Joseph on guitars,Clarence on bass, and Prithwish as the vocalist. And thats how they agreed upon what they call a democratic process. You can download two-minute feelers of all the seventeen songs from our website and vote for the songs that go into the album, says Prithwish. The process fits perfectly into their scheme of things. We are a very people-driven band. Give us an empty auditorium and we are sure to mess things up, laughs Prithwish.
So,its not surprising that their music has an energetic sing-along-quality to it. We are primarily into alternative rock but our music registers a variety of influences. In a nutshell, our music is mostly about rock riffs with pop laden melodies, says Surojit. And we dont try to fight the musical influences,if at all they make their way into our compositions.
While the band is upbeat about their debut album which will be released by the Counter Culture Records, they arent actually daydreaming about some stunning sales figures. How many of us buy music these days? You either download stuff or rip it from some one whos got a CD. Lets face it,thats how music survives in this century, says Surojit. So if you find Love.Hate.Heroes up on the Clones website in good time, dont be surprised. We would rather like our fans to plug in to quality,buzz-free sound than the scratchy free downloads that will be all over the web the moment the albums out, says Prithwish. We are listening!
