On the second day of the indefinite bandh called by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha in Darjeeling, all shops, offices and commercial establishments remaining closed on Sunday.

The Morcha had called the bandh demanding transfer of IG,North Bengal,Kunda Lal Tamta, discontinuation of service of BL Meena whose term as administrator of Darjeeling Gorkha Hills Council ends on June 30 and action against Rakesh Singh,SDPO of Kurseong, who ordered a lathicharge on Morcha supporters on June 14.

While Tamta has been transferred, the state government is yet to take any decision regarding the other two demands.

“Our stand is very clear,” said Roshan Giri,Morcha general secretary. “We are not going to withdraw the bandh till our other demands are made. The police are unnecessarily harassing us and we are protesting against it.”

The tourists at Siliguri for a trip to Darjeeling, meanwhile, are now looking for a trip to Sikkim or Bhutan.
