The Calcutta High Court today directed the state government to produce the investigation report of the initial stage on the death of SFI activist Sudipta Gupta who allegedly died in police custody.
Sudipta,who was arrested from an SFI rally at Rani Rashmoni Road on April 1,was allegedly beaten up by the police on the way to the Presidency jail in a bus. He was taken to SSKM hospital where he died on April 2. The police,however,claimed that Sudipta had fallen from the running bus and hit a lamp post.
Hearing the petition filed by Sudiptas father,Pranab Gupta,Justice Sanjib Banerjee directed the state to produce the records in connection with the investigation for initial stage on the death of Sudipta.
Pranab Gupta has approached the Calcutta High Court seeking a CBI probe into his sons death.
