TMC’s youth wing president Saayoni Ghosh Wednesday skipped the second round of questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the school job scam case. Ghosh, who was asked to appear before the ED officials at its Kolkata office at 11 am, was seen campaigning for the party at Galsi in Purba Bardhaman district for the July 8 panchayat elections. The campaigning for the panchayat polls will end on Thursday.

In a letter to the ED, which sources said reached just five minutes before her scheduled time of appearance, Ghosh informed them of her inability to visit the ED office for questioning and said she would be able to appear “any time and on any day” after July 11 — the day of counting of votes for the polls.

“Only two days are left for campaigning. Therefore, I have informed the ED about my inability to appear before it. I am ready to cooperate with them and will appear after July 11. I have sent my communique to them along with the documents and financial details which the ED officials had sought,” the actor-turned -politician said while speaking to mediapersons at Galsi.

On June 30, she was questioned by ED officials for 11 hours.

Earlier in the day, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said Saayoni would not appear for questioning because of the election-related engagements.

BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya. called Saayoni’s decision to skip questioning an “attempt to escape” the ED probe. “Her pre-engagement in the election campaign cannot be an excuse for skipping the questioning. TMC leaders are trying to escape the investigation. If anyone claims to be innocent, then he or she should face questioning without any fear,” he said.
