Rape bid foiled in hostel,scared girl dies

A 13-year-old girl died in a tribal girls’ hostel at Nabagram in Murshidabad on Wednesday after some miscreants sneaked into the building and allegedly tried to rape some of the inmates.

Superintendent of Police (Murshidabad) B L Meena said three goons tried to sneak into the hostel last night taking advantage of the darkness during a power cut at 9.30 pm. Following this,the girls started screaming. When locals rushed to the hostel,the goons managed to escape. Some of the girls,including Pratima Baskey,fainted during the commotion. When they were brought to Murshidabad hospital,the doctors declared Pratima dead on arrival.

Four students,who were admitted to the hospital last night were released today. Meena said there was no injury mark on Pratima’s body. The cause of death could be ascertained only after the postmortem report,Meena added. No arrests have been made so far. The girls’ hostel,which is located in a lonely area of the village,has 23 students.
