A grand piano belonging to Queen Victoria made its comeback at an exhibit after 20 years at Victoria Memorial on the occasion of World Music Day today.
The grand fortepiano No. 69,which was made after King William IV ordered it in 1829 for his niece and successor Queen Victoria, used to be a star attraction at Victoria Memorial until the section in which it was on display was shut down for renovation.
Director-general of National Library Swapan Chakravorty, who is also the curator of the Victoria Memorial Hall, said,We are happy that this rare object is back, giving visitors a chance to have a glimpse of it. However, every museum in the world has objects that are not on display. Even the Indian Museum has many rare objects which they cant put on display due to lack of space.
The piano, which came as a gift to the memorial named after the queen from King Edward VII in 1905,has been kept in a glass case in the Queens Hall with the eastern quadrangle courtyard in the backdrop.
