Policeman shoots himself at Alipore

A 56-year-old assistant sub-inspector of the state armed police committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver on Sunday around 8.30 am.

A 56-year-old assistant sub-inspector of the state armed police committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver on Sunday around 8.30 am.

The incident occurred at the armoury section of Alipore Police Lines in South 24 Parganas.

Kesto Das was on duty at Chitpur Terminal Station in central Kolkata Saturday night.

He was supposed to submit his arms by last night but failed to do so. He arrived at the armoury section this morning to submit his firearm and shot himself there.

On hearing gun shots,other policemen rushed to the spot and took him to the SSKM Medical College and Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries at 11 am at the hospital.

According to police,Das was unmarried and a resident of Rakhaldas Addi Road in Chetlam,where he lived with his brother.

Das was reported to be a native of Ghola in North 24 Parganas.

According to sources,Das was suffering from depression due to personal reasons.
