The Opposition CPM today criticised the state government for keeping them in the dark over the developments on the Darjeeling hills so far as the Justice Shyamal Sen Committee report was concerned and requested Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to issue a statement in the Assembly in this regard.

The CPM also said that the situation in the hills was not conducive for elections to the Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA).

This was stated in the Assembly by Leader of the Opposition Surya Kanta Mishra, who also alleged that setting up of another committee to verify facts of a previous committee headed by a retired chief justice of a high court was unconstitutional and illegal.

“We want peace and harmony in the hills. We demand there should be an all-party meet to decide on this issue,’’ Mishra said while talking to mediapersons outside the House.

He also demanded there should be adequate representation of women in the GTA as promised by Mamata.

Meanwhile, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM),which boycotted the budget session of the Assembly that started today, said it would be its party president Bimal Gurung who would take a final call on attending the session. The House would go on till July 17.

A delegation of GJM led by its general secretary Roshan Giri met the Chief Minister on Saturday last and conveyed to her their dissatisfaction over the allotment of only five mouzas of Terai and Dooars region to GTA.
