One held in Ballygunge shoot-out case

Shakil Khan (32),a resident of Tiljala and owner of a plastic goods manufacturing factory,and his friend Vishal Agarwal (27) were shot at by two unidentified goons when they came out of a dhaba on Ballygunge Circular Road. Nine of their friends were inside the eatery when the incident took place.

Khan and Agarwal were initially admitted to the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital from where they were shifted to a private hospital. As per Detective Department sources,two other cases of shooting were pending against Roy,a former student of Patha Bhavan.

“After arresting him,we checked his criminal records and it was found that one more case was registered against him in Beniapukur police station. In 2005,he shot at a person and an attempt to murder case was registered,” said a senior officer of the Detective Department.

The officer further added that Roy went to Pune and he was admitted in a college there for aeronautical engineering.

“He was sent to Pune for studies. However,he shot a student there and was rusticated from the college. After returning,he used to move with gangs that throng the night clubs and discos in the city. In 2005,he got involved in a shoot-out in Beniapukur Police Station area,” said Sen.

During interrogation,Roy reportedly told the police that on March 21,he and his friends were standing outside the Ginger restaurant in south Kolkata when the girlfriend of one of his friends came there. An argument broke out between the couple,after which the woman was slapped by her friend. The woman then went inside the restaurant. After seeing her crying,another group led by Babar came out of the restaurant and a scuffle broke out between the two groups.

“Roy and his friends then went back to his house and returned on his bike with a pistol. Roy was the pillion rider,who fired the shots. He seems to be a good shooter. We have seized the pistol and the bike,” said a senior officer.
