About a week ago,East Bengal fans held players hostage at the club ground after they lost to Aryan in a Calcutta Football League match. On Sunday,Mohun Bagan supporters, showing their aggressive streak, pelted stones at the car of a club legend, who happens to be the teams technical director.
Not often does one see Subrata Bhattacharya getting brickbats from Bagan fans. Today, the unprecedented happened after the green-and-maroons lost (2-1) to Prayag United in their I-League return leg match and slipped to the seventh position in the standings.
It was a bad day in office for Bhattacharya. For,not only was he outwitted by his counterpart,Sanjoy Sen,but also had to face the ire of his own players.
Brazilian Hudson Lima openly challenged the decision to substitute him in the second half and got into an altercation with Bhattacharya near the dugout.
The fans too didnt like the move and after the match they turned the heat on the technical director, hurling stones at his car and using choicest of expletives. Police had to act swiftly to disperse the crowd. Bhattacharya, however, defended the move, saying,It was not a mistake to replace him. I had to act according to the situation.
