Nomination over,confusion in alliance

In Dinhata seat in Cooch Behar district,two candidates of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have filed their nomination papers. The Trinamool had given the seat to the NCP from its own kitty as it decided to contest from six seats,and gave two and seats to the Congress.

In Darjeeling district,where it was decided that Congress would contest in five seats and Trinamool was given the Siliguri Assembly seat,two Congress leaders have filed nomination for Kalimpong Assembly seat.

While Shankar Malakar,Darjeeling district Congress president,said that the party’s official candidate was Shanti Kumar Sharma,another Congress leader Dilip Pradhan also filed his nomination papers for the same seat today. Malakar said that Pradhan would have to withdraw his nomination.

In Jalpaiguri district,eight Congress leaders have filed their nomination papers. In fact the party was allotted seven of the 12 seats in the electoral understanding reached with the Trinamool.

Depaprasad Roy,district leader and sitting Congress MLA from Jalpaiguri,said that he was not aware about the eighth candidate.

However,in districts like North Dinajpur,South Dinajpur and Malda,there was no such confusion between the alliance partners.

The Left candidates have filed nomination in all the 54 seatsm,and the BJP in 50 seats. The last date of the withdrawal of nomination is April 4.
