Over 500 people, who were rendered homeless by the post-poll violence in Nandigram and are staying at two camps since May 8 a day after polling are the only headache for the district administration.
Police have taken the initiative to return the homeless to their villages, said P K Ghosh,Superintendent of Police,East Midnapore.
Police camps have been set up at Keyakhali and Giribazar to provide security at Santengabari, which was one of the worst-affected villages by the post-poll violence.
Now,the police have asked the block administration to hand over a list of homeless people taking shelter in the camps.
Ghosh said that the process of villagers return will be worked out after they get the list of the displaced people and it is likely to start soon.
According to an estimate by the block administration, about 490 villagers of Satangabari,Takapura,Brindabanchawk and Ranichawk have taken shelter in a school at Maheshpur. Sources said that the displaced villagers are mostly Trinamool supporters.
Around 30 villagers belonging to CPM have also taken shelter in a camp at Mallickpara.
Violence broke out in Mallickpara and Jadubarichawk on last Friday in which two CPM activists were lynched.
Both the Trinamool and CPM have demanded security from the district administration.
Local Trinamool leader Abu Taher said the homeless of Santengabari may return to their homes if police ensure security in the villages.
