A Bharat Sevasharam monk was arrested and remanded in police custody for allegedly abusing minor boys in the ashram premises at Sahapur.
The 27-year-old monk was arrested under Section 377 of the IPC (unnatural offences) and Sections 12 and 8 of The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act Monday after a written complaint was filed against him by locals for allegedly abusing four boys,three of whom were minors,police said.
SP Kalyan Mukherjee confirmed confirmed his arrest. The monk was produced in a local court Wednesday,which remanded him in police custody for three days.
The minors reside in the ashram and study in a residential school under the supervision of the monks. Sangh sources said the monk was falsely implicated by locals with whom they had a land dispute.
