Former land and land reforms minister Rezzak Mollah has been named a prime accused in a complaint lodged by a woman at Baruipur police station in South 24-Parganas. The 70-year-old veteran CPM MLA faces charges of molestation, loot and rioting.
The complaint also names 13 other CPM leaders and workers.
In the past five months,Mollah has been named in at least three complaints, including an attempt to murder case.
Recently, former minister Gautam Deb,too, was grilled by the CID in a land scam case and CPM state committee member Sujan Chakraborty was booked in a murder case in what the CPM alleges to be political vendetta against its leaders by the ruling Trinamool Congress party.
Mollah said: I can remember about three complaints lodged against me in the last five months. It is,however, good for me. The more the number of cases against me,the more my TRP (Television Rating Point) will be.
He also said he will not be involved in any legal fight. I would rather go to jail. I think in Mamatas kingdom, jail is the safest place for me.
While the case against Mollah was lodged with the Baruipur police station on March 30,it came to the fore today with the arrest of three CPM workers, including a member of Bhangar panchayat samity,Saifuddin,in the case.
Sources said the arrests were made as the panchayat elections are close.
Mollah is said to have gone to a club in Suryapur for a function on March 29. The next day,the CPM and TMC workers clashed at the same place and several houses were ransacked and several villagers injured.
Mollah, however, claimed he was not present on the spot at the time of the violence. I was there for 15 minutes on March 29. But I was not there on March 30. But my name is mentioned in the FIR. It is all a political conspiracy.
The CPM MLA said he has also been named in an attempt to murder complaint in Jibontala police station.
