Minister rules out bus fare hike

Newly appointed Transport Minister Madan Mitra on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of a bus fare hike.

Newly appointed Transport Minister Madan Mitra on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of a bus fare hike. Suggestions on improving the transport system will be invited from the public,he said. “My prime objective is to restore discipline in the department and on reducing road accidents,” he said.


Bombs found outside school

Nine crude bombs were found outside a school in Tiljala area of Kolkata on Wednesday morning. “Two bags containing seven and two bombs were placed in the vicinity of the school gate. I noticed them bags just before the morning section of the classes were getting over,” said Intekhab Alam,the maintenance in-charge of the school.Police defused the bombs. “We requested the school authorities to declare holiday to avoid any panic among the students and parents,” said Ujjal K Roy,OC of Topsia police station. He added the investigation was on.


Commissioners to replace 2 district SPs

The government will transfer two district police superintendents and appoint commissioners in the recently constituted Bidhan Nagar and Barrackpore Police Commissionerates. Burdwan SP Humayun Kabir is likely to replace Murshidabad SP B L Meena,who will be appointed divisional commissioner (headquarters) of Kolkata Police. Special Superintendent,Criminal Investigation Department (CID),S Mirza will replace Kabir. The commissioner of Bidhan Nagar Police will be Rajeev Kumar.
