Suspected Maoists today killed a 35-year-old local committee member of the CPM,Nihar Mahato,at Gamaria village in Jhargram.
According to a senior police officer,Mahato was abducted from his residence in Gamaria village late on Tuesday night. According to witnesses,four armed cadres with their faces covered stormed into the house of Mahato and picked him up forcibly at around 9 pm, said an officer.
An officer said Mahato was suspected of working as a police informer and he had received a warning from the Maoists a few days ago. Mahatos bullet-ridden body was found 1.5 kilometres from his house.
In a separate incident,the security forces raided Kendnagri village in Jamboni after having specific information about the presence of a senior Naxalite leader in the village.
We had information that a senior Naxalite leader was camping in the village. Though we could not arrest him,we seized some important documents from one Sambhu Mahatos house. He has been arrested. We are interrogating him, said a senior officer.
