Trinamool Congress chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee today said that her party will send a delegation to meet Union Home Minister P Chidambaram during his visit to Bengal this weekend to expose CPM’s violence in the state.

She also stated that with the civic poll dates announced, the Trinamool and the Congress will unitedly fight against the CPM.

“The Union minister is scheduled to visit some trouble-torn areas. I have been constantly talking to him regarding the state-sponsored violence in Bengal,” said Banerjee at a press conference today.

“The Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee government has no right to stay in office. They have not only failed in maintaining law and order, but also are behind the spate of violence in the state. Hundreds of people are being killed every month in various districts of Bengal by armed cadres of the CPM,” Banerjee added.

Regarding the municipal polls she said: “Our talks are on with the Congress in different districts and our alliance is intact. Together we will defeat the CPM. We are happy that the Election Commission has asked for Central forces, since we fear that the CPM will once again unleash violence to try and stop people from voting.”

Meanwhile, the state Congress too welcomed Chidambaram’s visit to Bengal. “For a long time,we have been asking him to visit Mangolkot, which is reeling under political violence,” said Manas Bhuniya, leader of Congress Legislative Party.
