CPM politburo members Nirupam Sen and Biman Bose became fodder for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjees attacks following a leading Bengali newspaper report that the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the state government has detected Rs 16 crore deposits in a bank account in their names.
During an election rally at Raina in Burdwan Friday,Mamata said: Just imagine such a huge amount of money has been kept in individual accounts even as Biman Bose has claimed that he does not have a PAN (permanent account number) as he is a party wholetimer. Nirupam Sen,too,had declared before the election commission during the last state assembly elections that he is a social worker.
Sen belongs to Burdwan where the panchayat polls will be held in the second phase on July 15,The two leaders have reportedly kept the money in their names as contingency funds in case the CPM party is banned.
Mamata also alleged that the two leaders were now trying to transfer the funds in the CPMs name.
Look at these leaders,they do not believe in their own party,how will they believe in people and their welfare? God knows how many such accounts are there in the names of individuals. This is a desi account,just imagine about the videshi (abroad) accounts, the Chief Minister charged.
Anandabazar Patrika on Friday reported that the EOW wing is reportedly examining the deposits and transactions from the accounts,operational at a State Bank of India branch,close to the partys Alimuddin Street headquarters.
At the rally,the Chief Minister also outlined the development works undertaken by her government even as the opposition,she said,fail to acknowledge it.
Our political opponents cannot find any development work done by the Trinamool Congress here. But so much has been done in the district in the past two years, she said adding the government is setting up at least three industrial parks in the district.
Burdwan combines industry and agriculture and many schemes are coming up here to cover both,she said. A new township in coming up at Andal in Durgapur,she added.
She also ridiculed the previous Left Front government. What development work will we do? It will take us at least five years to clear the garbage that they had left behind. We can move forward only after that.
She said the government has set up a Commission of Inquiry for the Sainbari massacre even when the victims were Congress supporters while claiming that the government was impartial in setting up Inquiry Commissions. She said her government has also set up a commission to probe Ananda Margi massacre and killing of a large number of adivasis.
