Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday began her tour to Junglemahal, which was affected by the Maoist violence. She reached Jharghram late in the evening.

“Tomorrow,I will go to interior areas like Belpahari and Kantapahari. Our journey for political change in West Bengal after 34 years (of Left Front rule) started with Junglemahal,” said Banerjee, who last week alleged that Maoists and the Opposition were conspiring to kill her.

Banerjee had last week addressed two panchayat election meetings at Bankura and Purulia districts, also part of junglemahal.

According to a report prepared by the Special Task Force (STF) on Junglemahal, set up by the CM,projects worth more than Rs 500 crore have been implemented in the the area in the last two years after the Trinamool Congress came to power in the state. “The government’s motto had been to solve the problem at the LWE areas through development and we had been earnestly doing it,” said Jaya Dasgupta, chairperson of the STF.
