Members of the Left Front today staged a walkout from the state Assembly when Speaker Biman Banerjee refused a Forward Bloc leader permission to read out an adjournment motion on the attack on former Left Front minister Naren De in Dhanekhali late yesterday evening.
The Left Front MLAs also demanded that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee gave a statement in the House on the issue.
Initially,AIFB MLA Tajmul Hossain read out some portion of the adjournment motion but after comments from Trinamool Congress MLA Asima Patra, members of both the Treasury and Opposition benches started shouting at each other. Shortly afterwards, the Left Front MLAs walked out of the House and did not participate in the proceedings for the later part of the day.
Along with former MLA Ajit Patra,Naren De,a former minister for agriculture and a senior Forward Bloc leader, was attacked allegedly by Trinamool supporters in Dhanekhali late yesterday evening.
The veteran leader sustained grievous injuries in both his eyes and had to be admitted to a city hospital for treatment.
The more they talk about democracy, the more attacks are unleashed by them on the members of the Opposition, senior Left Front MLA Anisur Rehman later said.
Asima Patra, however. denied TMCs involvement in the attack, It may be people from his own party who attacked Naren, Patra said.
