Senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee once again hinted at a possibility of a post-poll tie-up with the Left and added that it would be sensible for the Left parties to rethink on forming the next government after the results will be out on May 16.

Speaking to mediapersons in Jangipur from where he is seeking re-election,Mukherjee said: “On May 16,the numbers will be known. It is sensible (for the Left) to sit and talk. Numbers are important.” He was responding to CPM politburo member Sitaram Yechuri’s recent remarks that till May 16 the Left parties will work towards forming a non-Congress and non-BJP government at the Centre.

“In a parliamentary democracy, those who get 51 out of 100 are the winners and those who get 49 are the losers. 49 equal to zero in parliamentary democracy. The Congress is fighting the elections to get the numbers and form a government at the Centre,” Mukherjee added.
