Happening today in Bengal: Kolkata braces for traffic snarls as Vidyasagar Setu closes; Police prep for marathon

Kolkata Police is going to organise a half marathon in Kolkata on January 18. The promo run for this half marathon will be organised on Sunday, November 23.

Commuters traveling from Kolkata to Howrah will face the closure of the second Hooghly bridge (Vidyasagar Setu) and traffic disruptions for eight hours. Kolkata police informed that the bridge will be closed from 6 am to 2 pm on Sunday. Expect heavy congestion on diversion routes, particularly the Howrah Bridge. Plan your journey well in advance!

Kolkata police informed that all types of westbound vehicles, coming along AJC Bose Road from the Zeerut Island side for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from Turf View via the at-grade road towards Hastings Crossing to avail St. Georges Gate Road – Strand Road – Howrah Bridge or to take a right turn from Hastings Crossing for K.P. Road.
On the other hand, all types of westbound vehicles, coming along K.P. Road from the J&N Island side for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from 11 Furlong Gate towards Hastings Crossing to avail St. Georges Gate Road – Strand Road – Howrah Bridge.

All types of eastbound vehicles, coming along CGR Road from the Khidderpore side for Vidyasagar Setu, will be diverted from Hastings Crossing to take a left turn to avail St. Georges Gate Road – Strand Road – Howrah Bridge. All types of vehicles on K.P. Road, availing Vidyasagar Setu via the ramp at Y-Point near Ghora Pass, will also be diverted from Y-Point on K.P. Road towards 11 Furlong Gate to avail KP Road – Red Road for Howrah Bridge. Vehicular traffic will also be diverted through arterial roads as and when required.

Marathon Prep:

Kolkata Police is going to organise a half marathon in Kolkata on January 18. The promo run for this half marathon will be organised on Sunday, November 23. All senior police officials, led by Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma, will be present at the programme. The run will start at 6:45 am from the Traffic Training School in Tala.

Social Event:

Renowned monks of Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Kartik Maharaj, and other representatives from Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Ramakrishna Mission, and Mayapur Math are going to organise a social initiative at the Panchpota ground near Garia railway station.
