Honourary Bengali
It has been over eight months since Gopalkrishna Gandhi, has left Bengals Raj Bhavan for Chennai, but he is still very much in touch with Kolkata and its people. According to the Raj Bhavan staff,he is still pursuing his study of Bengali,a language he started learning when he became Governor. He often calls to know the Bengali meaning of a particular word,he also sends for books in Bengali, a staff member said. Often from Kolkata, people send him books and magazines, sometimes other items too. The bond of Bengal with its Peoples Governor still remains strong.
Missing Bhupinder
People who suffer worst due to the exit of Bhupinder Singh from the office of DGP are the reporters,to whom Singh was always accessible. Every afternoon,at 5,he used to have a media conference where most of the time it was the reporters who briefed him about developments in the state. And anytime be it even midnight one could call his mobile and get a reply. In sharp contrast, the new DGP Naparajit Mukherjee, the very first day he took over, clearly announced that the job of briefing will be done from now by IG,Law and Order,Surajit Kar Purakayastha. He even refused to divulge his mobile number, saying it was not needed by reporters.
Uttam-fever hits Left
As if taking a cue from the Trinamool Congress, the state government at last took the decision to pay homage to late matinee idol Uttam Kumar. They have decided to build an archive on Uttam Kumar at Chalachitra Satabarshiki Bhavan at south Kolkata. Not just prints of actors films will grace the archive, it will also contain his personal effects and the books written on him.
