Rahul aka Rajiv
Seems Congress leaders of Malda think that former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi and his son Rahul Gandhi are the same persons, literally. During the recent visit of Rahul in Malda for a rally,he was introduced and mentioned a number of times by local leaders as Rajiv Gandhi. Even during speeches by senior district leaders, names of Rajiv and Rahul got mixed up quite a number of times. Besides, hosts of other glitches marred the occasion. At one instance, the name of AICC in-charge of Bengal,K Keshav Rao was announced, but local leaders approached and garlanded Rahul.
Now,govt mixes up
It was not only the tribals of Purulia district who were not sure of about the high-profile politician visiting their constituency, during the recent visit of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi. About a dozen security passes issued to media by the state police mentioned they were meant to cover the rally of Rajiv Gandhi.
Failed in home work
The CPMs allegation that Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi did not do his home work properly before making comments on West Bengal may have some truth in it. For instance, just before Rahuls press conference began in Kolkata,AICC in-charge for West Bengal K Keshav Rao was seen asking journalists and other party leaders what was there in the Trinamool Congress manifesto. As he was told it was more like a CPM manifesto with almost all the old demands,Rao immediately called Gandhi and briefed him about this. Fortunately none in the press conference asked Gandhi about the manifesto.
Power flows from power
In the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, the worsening power situation in the state has posed a new problem to the ruling Left Front. Alimuddin Street, state party headquarters,is now directly monitoring the power situation and has asked the minister concerned to report to the party everyday. As outage can turn voters against the party, many leaders including the chief minister have intervened in the situation. Party insiders say the consumers who suffer from powercut can now call up party office and will get immediate redressal and calling up state electricity board call centers might not be fruitful. After all power lies with the party that rules, they say.
To Madam,with respect
Call it a gender bias. Deputy Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Central) Damayanti Sen likes to be addressed as sir instead of madam by her subordinates. In fact, she takes exception if her juniors call her madam. We never make the mistake of calling her madam. She does not like it, said one official.
