In Left Front’s Bidhannagar candidate list,incumbent chairman finds no mention

The Left Front announced the candidates for the Biddhanagar Municipality on Sunday. Interestingly,the candidate contesting for the post of chairman was not announced.

The Left Front announced the candidates for the Biddhanagar Municipality on Sunday. Interestingly,the candidate contesting for the post of chairman was not announced.

The name of sitting chairman of the municipality,Biswajibon Majumdar,was also not included in the list,giving rise to the speculation about the candidate for the chairman’s post.

The Left Front announced candidates for 23 wards of the existing 25 wards. Since names of candidates for ward number 12 and 3 have not been announced as yet,Majumdar might be asked to contest from ward number 3.

According to party sources,Majumdar is unwilling to contest from this ward,as Trinamool Congress has won from it twice.

The district leadership has also left out three chairman-in-councils (CiC) — Ila Nandy,Nandogopal Bhattacharya and Tapan Talukdar — in favour of new faces.

Ten new faces have been announced in today’s list. Few of the significant faces are Nilanjana Bhattacharya of CPM will contest from ward number 5,Forward Block’s Nilanjan Brahma from ward 6,Jyoti Bhushan Dutta from ward 15,

Chandra Sarkar from ward 8,Durga Daga from ward 11,Rita Majumdar from ward 14,Subal Rong from ward 18.

Of the 21 municipalities for which candidates were announced on Sunday,10 of the existing members,including Majumdar have not got a ticket.
