Suspected Maoists allegedly killed Ram Mandi (50),a member of the Maoist Resistance Committee,in Jhargram on Monday morning. The bullet-riddled body of Mandi was recovered from a field beside the main road at Jhargram. Five to six armed men raided Mandi’s house at Bera-Jamda village in Jhargram and abducted him. West Midnapore SP Manoj Verma said the body had been dumped in the field.

Buddha to meet PM on Tuesday
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday morning in New Delhi. The Naxalite problem is expected to be discussed,among other things. Bhattacharjee left for Delhi to attend the three-day central committee meeting and the Politburo meeting.

Free education for sex workers
An IGNOU study centre opened in the red light zone of Nilmani Mitra Street a couple of years ago will henceforth offer free education to sex workers. The decision comes in the wake of a demand by sex workers seeking free education at the centre,said vice chancellor V N Rajasekharan Pillai.
