Woman commits suicide at Metro
This years first case of Metro suicide took place on Friday,when an unidentified woman jumped in front of a Dum Dum-bound train at the Jatin Das station around 4.15 pm. So far,we have not been able to identify the woman. All we know is that she was 35-years-old. Though the driver tried to stop the train,it was too late, said a metro official. Train services remained closed from 4.15 pm to 4.55 pm,but continued from Dum Dum to Maidan and from Kavi Nazrul to Mahanayak Uttam Kumar stations. With metro becoming one of the most obvious choices for suicide,officials said last year there were 15 attempts,of which 10 were successful. We were able to save five people, said a metro official. In November last year,there were three suicides in less than 60 hours. After the spate of suicides last year,metro officials had decided to install CCTV cameras on the station.
Couple found dead
A couple was found dead in their house in Purbachal,Block D under the Ghola police station. The body of Mani Bhattacharya (48) was found hanging and his wife Jharnas body was found on the bed with strangulation marks on the neck. Rahul Shrivastav,SP,North 24-Parganas said: According to preliminary investigation,the man killed himself after allegedly killing his wife.
Will stop improper use of National Emblem,govt tells court
Advocate General Bolai Roy assured the High Court on Friday that the state will take steps to stop the improper use of the National Emblem. In an affidavit,Kamal Dey,the editor of a Bengali news journal,had alleged that the Ashoka Pillar has been fixed on the nameplate at the bungalow of the Director General of Police at Alipore. Placing photographic evidence before the court,his counsel,Tapash Bhanja,said the DGP is not legally entitled to display the National Emblem. Various officials of the state and the central government are illegally using the National Emblem on cars and nameplates,he said.
