CID officials said in the past one year there have been several occasions when they failed to trace out records and case diaries of important old cases. There have been instances in which the CID failed to find out the case diary or records from its own office. In some cases,documents have been deliberately destroyed for political reasons during the change of guards,it was feared.

Referring to the case of 1970 Sainbari killings at Burdwan in which CPM goons allegedly killed several members of a Congress-supporting family,the officials said during the hearing of a PIL in 2010,the Supreme Court wanted the records of the case from the Calcutta High Court. But the records were not available. The Sain Bari killing case had been investigated by the CID office at Asansol and no records were available there. No records could be traced out from the Burdwan SP’s office either. The trial was held at Alipore sessions court but no records were found there too. Like the Sain Bari massacre,the records of some other old cases could not be found with the CID,said the officials following which the digitisation process has begun.
