Owners of cold storage plants of West Bengal have threatened to prolong closure of the plants indefinitely unless the government heeds their demand to increase rent from Rs 101 per quintal to Rs 126 per quintal. The plants in the state have been shut since February 16. The West Bengal Cold Storage Association,an organisation of the owners,will meet on February 26 to decide the course of action.

Insolvency scam: HC registrar in custody

Kolkata Police on Tuesday produced Avijit Chakraborty,registrar,Insolvency,of Calcutta High Court in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court,which remanded him in police custody till March 1. Chakraborty was arrested yesterday by the Kolkata Police for his alleged involvement in the ‘insolvency scam’ which was brought into the notice of the Calcutta High Court in April 2010.
