Home Guards engaged in poll duty on Wednesday blocked the main road at Madhyamgram in North 24-Parganas district citing lack of drinking water facility and latrines at the place where they were lodged. They blocked the busy road for 15 minutes. The impasse came to an end after Officer-in-Charge of Barasat police station Paresh Roy assured them of proper facilities.

Transport woes: Govt to step in

The government on Wednesday decided to get directly involved in the requisition of vehicles for poll duty instead of the district administration to ensure that normal transport in the districts was not affected by lack of buses. This was decided at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Writers’.
