The Calcutta High Court on Friday directed status quo to be maintained till Wednesday over a 15-acre plot at Tiljala in east Kolkata, which was bought by the Mani Bhowmik Foundation from the state government.

The directive came on a petition moved by East Kolkata Fishermen Co-operative Society, which alleged the foundation has started filling up the ponds on the plot where it had been engaged in pisciculture on the land since 1989.

The court today directed the counsels for East Kolkata Fishermen’s Society and Mani Bhowmik Foundation to visit the area jointly and inform the court on the present status of the area. The case will come up for hearing on Monday.
