Four more test swine flu positive

Four more persons tested positive with swine flu in Kolkata on Sunday,taking the total number of affected persons to 73 in the state.

Those who tested positive are Pranati Sharma Sarkar (32),Sanjoy Saha (33),Manjari Pal (13) and Subhojit Bose (24). Pranati is the mother of Isha Sharma Sarkar,a child who had tested positive on Saturday.

While Pranati and Subhojit have been admitted to the ID Beliaghata Hospital,Sanjoy is being quarantined in Krishnagar Government Hospital,said Taposh Sen,state’s nodal officer for swine flu. Manjari has been admitted to M R Bangur Hospital.

According to state Health department officials,while Sanjoy had returned from Pune a couple of days ago,Subhojit has contracted the virus after he came in contact with a swine flu patient.

Amid the Union Health Ministry’s insistence that private hospitals be roped in to tackle swine flu cases,state Health officials claimed that a few private nursing homes in Kolkata were interested in doing so. Three private hospitals have reportedly sent an application.

“We will inspect these nursing homes tomorrow,” said a senior government Health official. At present,private establishments like Ruby General Hospital,Calcutta Medical Research Institute,B P Poddar Medical Research Institute and AMRI have set up 10-bed isolation wards.
