Father will come out clean, says Mukul son

“I trust my father completely and believe that he can handle every crisis," said Subhrangshu Roy.

A day before the all India general secretary of Trinamool Congress, Mukul Roy, is likely to appear before the CBI, his son Subhrangshu Roy — a Trinamool MLA — expressed confidence that Roy will come out clean.

“I am confident my father will come clean. My father has done no wrong and has the ability to streer clear of this situation,” said Subhrangshu, who wants to go to CBI’s office at Salt Lake when Roy appears before it. “I need permission from the party leadership to accompany my father to the CBI office… A large number of party workers are also keen on going,” he added.

Subhrangshu, the MLA from Bijpur, said: “My father had given a statement yesterday after receiving the call from the CBI. The party spokesperson has also made a statement. I too spoke to him both yesterday and today. But it was a conversation between a son and a father, and not between the party general secretary and an MLA.”

“I trust him completely and believe that he can handle every crisis. I am worried about his health and asked him to take his medicines on time,” he added.

Asked about people’s response on Roy’s alleged involvement in the Saradha scam, Subhrangshu said: “My father told me that he has to appear and cooperate with the CBI, as he is a responsible politician. Apparently, people are with us and they are also inquiring about my father. Many people are coming to me and asking about him. But we will get the final response in the upcoming municipal elections.”

Though the senior Trinamool leadership has termed CB I as BJP’s “tool of political vendetta”, Subhrangshu said: “My father will remain clean even after facing the interrogation, as he did not do anything wrong.”

CBI sources said the agency has at least half a dozen statements of several accused and employees of the Saradha Group, in which Roy’s name has figured repeatedly. Based on these documents, the central agency has summoned Roy. Sources also claimed Roy is likely to be released as soon as he records his statement.
