Engineering student found dead

Late Saturday, a group of youths — allegedly led by a local, Sheik Ziaul — had come over to the room and beat up Nishant, leading to his death.
Police sources said two persons took his body to the local primary health centre and introduced themselves as Nishant’s batchmates. They left him there while saying that he had met with an accident, said a source.

One of Nishant’s roommates, Saurav Singh, alleged had a verbal duel with Ziaul and his associates.

Following this, the accused had broken into their room and beat everyone up. While the other four managed to escape, Nishant was beaten to death, he claimed. Singh also claimed to have been injured in the attack.

In the morning, college authorities identified Nishant’s body. They claimed his death was a result of a group clash. “A student has been murdered and from what we have come to know, it is the result of a group clash. We have asked the police to investigate the matter. Whoever is the offender, even if a student of the college is involved, he should be punished,” said BITM Registrar Amitabha Chowdhury.

Sources said that Nishant, a resident of Patna, was part of a group that often entered into scuffles with another in the college over several issues.

“No formal complaint has been lodged so far. We have registered a case of unnatural death. No arrests have been made so far,” said an officer of the Bolpur police station.
