Egg on faces,TMC leaders blame Didi

The Supreme Court’s order has come as a huge setback for the ruling Trinamool Congress and particularly for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had been insisting on single phase panchayat poll and without any Central armed forces to begin with.

The Supreme Court’s order has come as a huge setback for the ruling Trinamool Congress and particularly for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who had been insisting on single phase panchayat poll and without any Central armed forces to begin with.

Even as some of the party leaders tried to give a spin to the apex court ruling, saying it foiled the Opposition’s ploy to postpone the elections,a section of senior Trinamool leaders whom The Indian Express spoke to,squarely blamed the Chief Minister for the fiasco, saying her “rigidity” led to “eggs on their faces”.

“Now,she (Mamata Banerjee) will have to bend backwards and accept the verdict. She does not know where to stop and that is why she gets egg on her face,” a senior Trinamool MP on condition of anonymity told The Indian Express. The leader termed the Supreme Court’s decision as “a clear triumph of the State Election Commission”.

“For us it is a tough fight ahead,” the MP added.

Another party MP,however said this is the time the party should put its act together and fight the elections unitedly. “We still have still time. Now,we know that the elections will not be held in accordance with the whims and desire of one person (read Mamata Banerjee). We should work hard for the battle, which has now become tougher,” the MP said.
