The alleged complicity of a BSF personnel has come up in the illegal drug trade after the arrest of a drug peddler in Darjeeling four days ago.
Pemba Tamang (40),who was arrested on September 11 near Ghoom railway station in Darjeeling with one kg of contraband heroin valued at Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore in clandestine market, has told the police that he had received the consignment from a BSF personnel.
SP (Darjeeling) Kunal Agarwal said: The drug peddler either wanted to sell the heroin at a hefty price in Darjeeling or move further across to smuggle it into Nepal.
Sources said that Tamang,a resident of Magarjung village near Sukhiapokhri, initially told that he was not able to recollect the name of the person from whom he took the consignment. But later during the interrogation,he revealed the name of the BSF personnel to us. We have forwarded all the documents and the details we could get from Tamang to the BSF authorities, said a senior police officer probing the matter.
