After Subash Ghising left Darjeeling late Monday night, now he is set to visit Myanamar and Nepal for completing his book on World War II. At present,Ghising is staying in his rented residence in Jalpaiguri.

When asked about his self-imposed exile,Ghising said,“I have left Darjeeling for Bimal Gurung and will see how he earns separate statehood for the people of the hills. However,I will never leave hope and after the new government settles down,I will persuade the government with the sixth schedule status of the hills.”

Ghising said he would return to Darjeeling after completing his book. “For completing my research work,I have to visit these countries,” he said.

According to a senior GNLF leader Ghising is disappointed with the poll results. “We were told by him that we would not win the election for sure, but we will get good votes. But he never thought the people of the hills will reject him and the sixth schedule status in this way,” said the GNLF leader.

Incidentally,Ghising reportedly left Darjeeling hours after his supporters were accused of attacking GJM members, one of whom was stabbed on the neck and had to be put on ventilator. Three other Morcha supporters too suffered injuries after the clash during an election victory celebration in Sonada last night. In retaliation, the GJM supporters vandalized the houses of GNLF supporters in the area at Sonada area in Darjeeling.
