Death sparks rampage in hospital ,4 doctors hurt

Four doctors were thrashed,with two of them admitted to hospital with serious injuries,by a mob following the death of a patient at Kalna Hospital in Burdwan district on Saturday. Three villagers were later arrested on charge of vandalising and beating up doctors.

Police said following the death of Abhijit Mondal (27) of Guptipara,his family and neighbours ransacked the superintendent’s room,and other parts of hospital and beat up the doctors and other hospital staff. Four doctors were injured with two of them admitted to the same hospital and their condition was stated to be stable now.

Hospital sources said Mondal was brought to the state-run hospital with fatal wounds and the patients’ party requested and insisted he be treated there when he was referred to Burdwan Medical College and Hospital for lack of facilities at Kalna.
