The note prepared by the Central Committee on the party rectification process was discussed in the CPM state committee meeting on Monday.
The two-day state committee meeting came to an end today. Besides CPM general secretary Prakash Karat, politburo members Sitaram Yechury and S R Pillai also attended the meeting.
The process of purging will now take place at every level. A similar drive was also launched in 1995-96 but it could not achieve much success. But now we will have to make an all-out effort to make a thorough cleansing of the party, said a member of the state committee.
The corrupt elements are largely responsible for the series of debacles that the party had to face since the panchayat elections in 2008, added the member.
Karat said the drive is being launched across the country and not just in West Bengal.
On Sunday,Karat reminded the party members that in order to maintain the revolutionary character of the party,a continuous drive has to be on for the rectification of faults at both the organisational level and other areas.
