CPM leader held for attack on Trinamool

The police arrested CPM leader Dilip Dey on Sunday for allegedly injuring a Trinamool Congress ex-councillor in the Rajarhat-Gopalpur municipality area on July 1 when the results of the civic polls were declared.

The police said Dey — a local CPM committee secretary — was produced in a court and remanded in judicial custody for seven days.

The victim,Subir Mondal,slipped into coma after he was admitted to a private hospital on Wednesday.

The police said that two persons — Tanmoy Dey and Arun Das — have also been arrested in connection with the incident that took place in the Kestopur area.

According to the police,Mondal had complained that CPM cadres had exploded bombs in front of Trinamool worker Samar Ghosh’s residence and insisted that the police accompany him to the spot.

When the Trinamool leader,along with the police,reached there the CPM was holding a rally to celebrate the victory of their candidate. All of a sudden,a group of people from the rally attacked Mondal.

While those with Mondal managed to escape,the Trinamool leader was beaten up and he sustained serious head injuries.

Trinamool supporters,who ransacked a police vehicle on Wednesday alleged that the police watched as mute spectators while the CPM cadres beat up Mondal.
