CPM begins drawing line between good, bad comrades

In a bid to stop erosion in its ranks, the CPM is planning to bring out a fresh “rectification drive” aimed at removing “corrupt” party cadres and leaders. The party state committee is all set to discuss the agenda in its two-day meeting which started on Saturday.

Party general secretary Prakash Karat is attending the meeting. The party state secretary has placed the organisational report on which the members started a discussion in the evening session of the meet. Sources in the party said the state committee had earlier identified that the erosion in its vote bank was a result of erosion in its ranks. “The party has received reports from several districts that a section of ‘good comrades’ deserted the party to join the Opposition camps only because of malpractices by some leaders in power,” said a state committee member who took part in the deliberations. “We want to draw a line between good comrades and bad comrades,” he added.

“We have to eliminate those who have used power for personal benefits. I am asking you all to identify these people and take action,” Biman Bose reportedly told the party members. Party bosses at Alimuddin Street headquarters have received several allegations against some ministers and leaders at the district level. “There are reports that a section of leaders is involved in construction business,a section of cadres has even entered into education business in connivance with some government officials,” said a leader.
