INTUC leader Dola Sen allegedly roughed up an on-duty private security guard on Nivedita Setu on February 16. Three weeks on,the case seems to be on the backburner.

Prabhas Ghughu, the security guard, put in a written complaint that day,but neither the complainant nor the accused was summoned at Baranagar police station (where the complaint was registered) for questioning.

While Dola and Trinamool top brass denied that any such incident took place,Baranagar PS authorities corroborated the fact that a complaint had been received.

“There has been no such incident and the entire story is a figment of someone’s imagination. Since nothing like that took place, why should I be called to the police station?” said Dola.

Himadri Bandopadhyay,OC,Baranagar PS,said,“We received a written complaint from the victim and a non-cognizable case has been booked against Dola Sen. She was accused of hitting an on-duty guard.”

Bandopadhyay did not want to elaborate on why Dola had not been called or questioned. “Investigation is on and nothing can be said beyond that,” he said.

Kallal Ganai,DC (HQ),Barrackpore commissionerate, too, treaded cautiously and said they were probing the matter and once the report was ready,it would be sent to the magistrate.

Asked why Dola had not yet been called and questioned,he said,“We did not feel the need to. If need be,she will be called.”

When it was pointed out that the chief minister’s nephew was held only after a call from the CM herself, and asked if Dola’s belonging to the ruling party was a deterrent to their work,Ganai said they were carrying out the investigation in an impartial manner. He could not specify a date as to when the inquiry would be complete. “It is not a very simple case as you can understand,so we are looking into all the aspects and cannot set a time frame by which the report will be ready,” he said.

“Some Trinamool men gave him a dressing down for putting in a complaint against one of their senior leaders,” said a close friend of Ghughu.
