Police today cracked a kidnapping case in a dramatic fashion by nabbing the abductor just as he was about to hand over a girl in exchange for the ransom money.

The girl,a B.Com student, was abducted from Ghola in North 24-Parganas on May 11 as she was returning from college. The abductor called her businessman father a number of times and told him to deliver Rs 10 lakh as ransom money.

The police, however, laid a trap to nab the abductor. They gave the girl’s father a bag full of fake notes and followed him to the place where he was asked to deliver the ransom money, sources said.

After making the father change a number of trains in the suburban railways, the abductors asked him to come to Bandel station in Hooghly district. At Bandel station, plainclothes police surrounded the abductor as he was about to hand over the girl to her father. The abductor, identified as Aftab, was arrested.
