A policeman allegedly set ablaze his 25-year-old daughter-in-law at his apartment in Howrah for dowry.

Anuska Pandey died at a hospital in Kolkata today. Police arrested her Raj Kyumar Pandey,who is a constable with Kolkata Police.

The police are looking for Anuska’s husband Manoj and mother-in-law,who allegedly assisted Rajkumar in the murder.

According to police,the Pandey family was constantly pressing Anuska for gold jewellery and a motorcycle. Anuska had told her father Debendra about the demands.

“On Friday,Rajkumar,his wife,son and daughter poured kerosene oil on Anuska and set her alight,” additional deputy commissioner (Howrah-North) Rashid Muni Khan said. Neighbours noticed smoke coming out of the apartment and rushed there. Manoj and his family stopped them from entering.

Later they took Anuska to a hospital in Kolkata. She died this morning.
