Cong replaces Bhuniya with Hena

The state unit of the Congress replaced Manas Bhuniya with Abu Hena as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party on Sunday.

The state unit of the Congress replaced Manas Bhuniya with Abu Hena as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party on Sunday.

“We had selected Manas Bhuniya as CLP leader but after receiving requests from other MLAs we selected Hena,” announced Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee after the CLP meeting in Kolkata.

Hena represents Lalgola Assembly constituency in Murshidabad. Bhuniya,meanwhile would continue to remain as the WBPCC chief.

Mukherjee expressed confidence in his party’s alliance with the Trinamool Congress for the crucial Assembly elections.

The political resolution released by the party also stressed on strengthening the alliance. “ The WBPCC would work towards strengthening the alliance with the Trinamool Congress to defeat CPM-led Left Front government in the ensuing Assembly election,” the resolution read and pointed to the “impressive results” of the last Lok Sabha elections in which the two parties had contested jointly.

During the internal discussions,the top brass of the party told the state leaders not to weaken the alliance. “This is not the time to talk about numbers of seat which we want to contest in the elections,but to oust the Left Front,” said leaders.

Asked about whether the alliance would be an honourable one as emphasized by Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi during his last visit to the state,Mukherjee said it was for the journalists to find whether it would it was an honourable one or not.

Bhuniya,meanwhile,called for joint movement with Trinamool against the violence allegedly perpetrated by CPM.

“The presence of harmad camps has been established. It is in my district (West Midnapore),Purulia and Bankura ,” said Bhuniya. The Congress leader said that despite letters from the Union home minister,the situation in the state remains same and people are suffering.
